A Very Welly Christmas

Santa arrives at midday

Don’t miss your chance to welcome Santa and his friends to Lambton Quay! This short walking parade leaves Ballance St and travels the Farmers/Whitcoulls side of the street all the way to The Old Bank Arcade.

Carols in Midland Park

Saturday from 5pm

Bring your best singing voice for 2 hours of carols as we rock around the festive clock. Postponement date: 5pm Sunday – follow Wellington City Council on Facebook for updates.

Support the Wellington’s Children Hospital

Christmas is a time for giving – dig deep and support the Wellington Children’s Hospital with a donation. Collectors will be there with Hospi the Hospital Lion on the day.

The first Wellington Santa Parade was held in 1949. Back then, it followed a short route around the Basin Reserve.

To make sure as many people as possible can enjoy free and fun holiday entertainment, we’ve turned our annual Christmas celebration into a 2-day festival. Each day starts with Santa’s Arrival a short walking parade, so you can still line the footpaths and wave to Santa – just like the old days!

Visit Santa’s Grotto

The walking parade finishes outside The Old Bank Arcade where Santa has his grotto. Grab a picture of his sleigh right outside the grotto doors. Then head inside to get a selfie with Santa.

Right in the heart of Wellington

The iconic Lambton Quay is closed to all traffic for two days allowing A Very Welly Christmas to take over and provide the unique opportunity of roving the streets freely enjoying the shopping, hospitality and special Christmas activities. The event runs from The Old Bank Arcade, junction of Willis St all the way to the Supreme Court and the Bowen/Whitmore streets.
